~FOOT TO THE FLOOR~
Four AM alarm cutting through the dark night
Throw a duffel in the cab under yellow lot light
See my teammate waiting with a thermos in his hand
Another week of hauling running all across the land
Thump the rubber with a iron, check the lights on the
back
Make sure the 5th wheel’s locked tight onto the track
Pop the hood, check the oil, look for leaks on the ground
Pre-trip is finished, hear that big diesel sound
Pull up to the island, lock the fuel nozzles in
Watch the gallons roll fast as the numbers all spin
Roll into the Love’s, grab a basket at the door
Stock up the pantry for a week with my foot to the floor
Cases of water, beef jerky, and some snacks
Microwave meals stacked up in the racks
Energy drinks chilled down to the bone
Everything you need when you’re driving alone
Pay the cashier, grab the bags, climb the stairs
Smell of fresh coffee floating through the air
Then we hit I-75, drop the clutch, let her eat
Eleven long hours on a vinyl truck seat
White lines flying underneath the front frame
State after state, yeah it all looks the same
Keep the hammer down, keep the cargo on time
Chasing that horizon on the interstate line
Just a long, long drive through the day and the night
Keeping America moving under interstate lights
Clock runs down, pull it into the rest bay
Brakes hiss loud at the end of the day
Logbook is green, time to switch out the crew
Partner takes the wheel, he’s got miles to do
I crawl in the back to the sleeper berth bed
Engine vibrates humming right through my head
Bumpy little mattress on a rough concrete road
Gotta try to get a little sleep
while my teammate handles the load
Scroll on the phone till the eyelids start to sag
need to drown the noise, grab the earplugs
from the duffle bag
Trying to catch some Z’s while the trailer shakes hard
Feels like five minutes since we left the home yard
Alarm goes off, gotta do it all again
Never enough rest for the highway men
End of the week, turning back to the nest
Hauling duty done, now it's time for some rest
Park the eighteen-wheeler, turn the ignition key down
Feeling pretty good as we roll into town
Kept the world turning with our foot to the floor
Now I’m walking right back through my own front door
Yeah, we kept the world turning
